Fresh details have emerged surrounding the recent eviction involving Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Femi Adebayo, as a member of his family has dismissed claims that the actor abandoned his estranged wife, Omotayo Sanusi, popularly known as Iyan Aladuke.
The development, which sparked intense debate across social media platforms, followed reports that Sanusi was forced out of a Lagos property allegedly owned by Adebayo. However, according to a family source, the situation was not the result of personal neglect or hostility, but a consequence of a bank-led recovery process.
Speaking on the matter, Mrs Taiwo Abdulmalik, a member of the Adebayo family, explained that the property in question was acquired through a bank loan, adding that repayment challenges later prompted the financial institution to activate foreclosure proceedings.
She disclosed that Sanusi had long been aware of the loan arrangement and was duly informed months ahead of the bank’s move to reclaim the property.
“The house was bought with a bank facility, and she knew from the beginning that the bank could take it back if issues arose. This was not sudden, and it was not done behind her back,” Abdulmalik said.
She further clarified that the property was solely owned by the actor and that he is still servicing the outstanding loan, including accumulated interest.
Contrary to claims circulating online, Abdulmalik stated that Adebayo ensured Sanusi, her relatives living with her, and household staff were not left stranded when the bank eventually took possession of the property.
“Immediately the bank moved in, he arranged alternative accommodation for her and everyone living with her. He paid for a fully furnished short-let apartment and covered all expenses,” she said.
According to her, the actor also encouraged his estranged wife to secure a permanent residence of her choice, assuring her that cost would not be a problem.
“He asked her to look for any house she liked and promised to pay the rent, regardless of how expensive it was,” Abdulmalik added.
She also revealed that in 2022, Adebayo purchased a plot of land near Sanusi’s business premises along Muritala Muhammed Way, which he reportedly registered in her name as a form of financial security.
“That land was meant to serve as a fallback investment for her. He was shocked to later learn that she had sold it shortly after the foreclosure and spent the proceeds,” she said.
Responding to allegations that the actor had neglected his responsibilities as a father, Abdulmalik insisted that Adebayo has consistently supported his son financially and emotionally.
“He has never abandoned his child. He provides monthly upkeep and remains deeply involved in his son’s life,” she stated.
She further disclosed that the actor reportedly spent close to $50,000 last year to take his son to India for medical treatment, noting that he prefers to keep such efforts private.
“He doesn’t publicise these things because he values family privacy,” she added.
Calling for caution in public judgment, Abdulmalik described the online narrative surrounding the matter as incomplete and misleading.
“No one wishes for a broken marriage. It’s painful, but the story being pushed online does not fully reflect the reality,” she said.
When contacted for her response, Sanusi declined to comment extensively, describing the matter as a private family issue.
“It’s personal. I have never granted an interview about this, and I don’t intend to start now,” she said, adding that she prefers to stay silent despite the differing accounts circulating online.
