Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger accused of assaulting airline officials during a Uyo–Lagos flight, has been arraigned and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), confirmed the development on Monday via his official X handle.
“The unruly passenger on the Uyo–Lagos Ibom Air flight, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and is now cooling off in Kirikiri,” Moshood wrote, urging the flying public to conduct themselves responsibly.
Her arraignment comes as the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) warns of stricter enforcement against disruptive passengers, following a spike in such incidents at Nigerian airports.
GTNews recalls that Emmanson was captured in a viral video repeatedly slapping a purser after being asked to switch off her mobile phone before take-off. Ibom Air, in a statement on Monday, announced a lifetime ban on her, citing serious safety concerns.
The airline said the incident began when Emmanson refused to comply with standard safety procedures. A fellow passenger eventually switched off the phone, sparking a heated verbal exchange. Upon landing in Lagos, she allegedly confronted the purser, assaulted her, and attempted to seize a fire extinguisher—actions the airline described as an attempt to “damage and ground the aircraft.”
Ibom Air stressed that her conduct endangered the safety of the crew, passengers, and the aircraft itself.
The case comes shortly after a similar incident involving Fuji star King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1), who reportedly tried to prevent a ValueJet flight from departing after being deboarded.
