- The lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Hon. Wole Oke, has declared that he financed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State for 12 consecutive years and insists that no law bars him from seeking re-election.
- Oke, a veteran legislator who has served six terms in the National Assembly, recently announced his departure from the PDP in a letter dated April 16, 2025, addressed to the party chairman in Ward 7, Obokun Local Government Area. His defection has stirred political waters, with speculations that he left due to the party's alleged refusal to offer him a ticket for a seventh term in office.
- Speaking during a live interview on a private radio station in Osogbo on Thursday, Oke dismissed claims that he left the PDP over personal ambition, emphasizing that he has made enormous sacrifices for the party and played a key role in its growth in Osun State.
- “There is no section in the Constitution that restricts how long I can serve in the National Assembly,” he said. “Why should I be asked to step aside when others, including the governor and senators, continue to seek re-election? My right to contest is constitutional.”
- Oke also accused the PDP of using him as a sacrificial lamb in the struggle to liberate the Obokun/Oriade axis politically. He claimed that his financial and strategic contributions to the PDP over the years were instrumental to its survival and success in the state.
- “I funded this party for 12 years,” he said. “Every year, I brought trailers of provisions and supported our leaders financially. There’s no PDP leader in Osun whose account details I don't have.”
- The seasoned lawmaker revealed he has no immediate plans to declare his next political move but is open to any position offered in his new political home.
- “Wherever I go next, I will accept whatever role they give me — whether it's Executive or Legislative. Even if it's the chairmanship of FIRS or a councillorship seat, I’ll take it. I am ready to serve.”
- Oke concluded by stressing his loyalty and sacrifice for the PDP, recalling how he stood by the party during internal crises and even lost close allies due to his political stance, including a fallout with his late brother, Soji Adagunodo, over support for the Adeleke governorship bid.
- The lawmaker’s defection marks a significant shift in Osun State politics, with many awaiting his next move on the political chessboard.
