As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks his 73rd birthday, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has praised the President’s leadership, describing him as a blessing to Nigerian sports and the country as a whole.
Speaking on the occasion, Dikko acknowledged the challenges Tinubu inherited upon assuming office but commended his ability to navigate the nation through difficult times. He highlighted the President’s "Renewed Hope" agenda as a key factor in stabilizing the economy and setting the country on a path to progress.
"Not everyone can accomplish what President Tinubu has done in such a short time," Dikko stated. "He has made bold decisions that, while difficult at first, are now bringing economic stability and hope for the future. His experience has been instrumental in guiding these policies to success."
Dikko also praised the President’s commitment to the sports sector, particularly his decision to reinstate the National Sports Commission while scrapping the Ministry structure. According to him, this move has begun to yield positive results in repositioning Nigerian sports.
"It was a bold step to restore the NSC with full powers," he said. "President Tinubu recognized the need to shift focus from merely participating in international competitions to developing domestic sports, which adds value to the economy. He has backed this vision with substantial support, including an unprecedented sports budget aimed at infrastructure development and incentives to attract private sector investment."
The NSC Chairman further emphasized the significance of the President’s support, noting that such backing is rare and has created an opportunity to transform the sector.
"History will be kind to Mr. President for his bold and intentional decisions to reset and reposition the country," Dikko added. "We, as his foot soldiers, will continue to work tirelessly to implement his vision in the sports sector."
Concluding his remarks, Dikko extended warm birthday wishes to the President on behalf of the NSC, praying for his continued strength and wisdom to lead the nation to greater heights.
