Kaduna, Nigeria: GTNews reports that the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas & Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV) has confirmed an ongoing investigation into a reported vehicle explosion that occurred in the early hours of April 5, 2026, at a motor park in Kaduna.
In an official press statement sent to GTNews, the initiative described the incident as “deeply unfortunate” and extended its sympathies to those affected. It clarified that there is currently no confirmed cause of the explosion, noting that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
According to the statement, the initiative is working in close coordination with relevant state and federal authorities to establish the facts and ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry.
The agency further reassured the public regarding the safety of compressed natural gas (CNG), emphasizing that, when properly handled and deployed, it maintains a strong safety record both globally and within Nigeria. It noted that CNG has been in use across various parts of the country for years without incidents of this nature.
While reiterating the benefits of CNG as a safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy source, the initiative also highlighted its role in supporting cleaner energy adoption and improving air quality.
The public was urged to remain calm and refrain from speculation or sensational reporting as investigations continue.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety and regulatory standards, Pi-CNG & EV stated that it will continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the highest levels of operational integrity across the sector.
